Samantha Mash about her work:

While I primarily work within the digital realm of illustration, I am influenced heavily by Neoclassical painters, American gothic horror writing, and modern Japanese animation.

I am interested in the place of iconography within paintings, as well as merging my childhood interests in anime with the more traditionally centered look of high art oil painting.

I use my work to explore the thin boundary between what is eerie and what is considered beautiful; looking into the conventions of our cultural perception. Focusing my personal work around the themes of death, nature, levels of power, and seclusion. I am ever influenced by science and myth and want to continue to push these themes in my work.

These constructions are so interesting, that I couldn’t resist to share it.

Anne ten Donkelaar / 1979

Graduated in 2007 at the ‘Utrecht school of The Art’ (NL) direction “3D Product Design”

Anne ten Donkelaar about her work:

A damaged butterfly, a broken twig, a bumblebee, some strangely grown weeds: I find all these unique discoveries in my path and then take them home to my studio. Here, I take my time to explore the objects and try to work out how I can show each one to it’s best advantage. My finds inspire me. While looking at them I can invent my own stories about their existence and their lives.
By protecting these precious pieces under glass, I give the objects a second life and hope to inspire people to make up their own stories about them.

I saw her beautiful illustration on the cover of Flow magazine. A few days later online somehwhere.

If you see her work once, you will recognize it the second time, because she has such a unique way of putting decorative patters and figures together.

Her color combinations have a vintage feeling although her settings can be modern, she still keeps everything very ‘Yelena’.

Floral illustration on products by La Scarlatte

I really want to introduce you to La Scarlatte / Pauline Teunissen, a freelance illustrator, living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.  Her very delicate work is used on various products, from clothes, to products, illustrations for magazines to bedsheets.

That is something I like a lot when I’m  browsing through somebodies portfolio. Because often times we think about illustration on ‘paper’, but look how beautiful it looks when it’s part of a product design for example, or when people can wear it!

Hopefully this will inspire you to create something like a ‘product’ for your portfolio.

Do you have any idea? Let us know in the comments!

“By blending textures and organic shapes she creates a beautiful combination that moves rhythmically and sometimes repeats as a pattern. Her work embraces every organism and object, it offers a place for people to wander carefree spaces (where even death is beautiful) and tales of forgotten worlds can be discovered.”
